Federal Court Awards Minimal Privacy Damages

David Fraser reports on a recent Federal Court of Canada ruling that awarded $4,500 in damages over the Royal Bank of Canada’s disclosure of banking information during a bitter divorce dispute.

    I’d say not a bad ruling. Granted the accounts would have been found out about in any case, however in essence RBC was fined for not properly following their PIPEDA processes.

    As my old math teacher used to tell me, it isn’t just about getting the right answer, it is about HOW you got to that answer.
