The Standing Committee on Industry, Science, and Technology today tabled its report on telecom deregulation. The report is very short (one paragraph) and to the point. The Committee: recommends that the Minister of Industry withdraw the order varying Telecom Decision CRTC 2006-15 and table in Parliament a comprehensive package of policy, statutory and regulatory reforms to modernize the telecommunications services industry. In other words, the Committee wants the Minister to put an end to cherry-picking from the Telecom Review Panel Report and to address telecom reform in a comprehensive fashion that addresses both economic and social regulation. The latter may include broadband connectivity, network neutrality, spam, and other related issues. Comments (3)
