Copyright in the Election Debate

The organizers for the upcoming federal election debates have invited Canadians to email proposed questions to question@electiondebate08.ca.  Sounds like a great chance to put copyright and digital issues like net neutrality on the public agenda.

What are the candidates positions on C-61 the last attempt at a copyright act, which was a surrender to American business interests.

Purpose
What do the candidates believe is the purpose of copyright and how does Bill C-61 advance that purpose?

The current conservative govt tabled bill c-61 an act to amend the copyright act. This bill was widely advocated as a Canadian ripoff of the much criticized US DMCA. C61 appeared to take away the rights of consumers by giving legal support to digital locks and implemented mandatory fines (up to $20,000) for breaking them (which a 12 yr old can do). Unfortunatly this bill was a huge step in the wrong direction for Canadian consumers/artists/educators who depend on fair dealing to educate, innovate, and create.

How would your party achieve a true balance between rights holders and consumers?

carbon tax
question for Mr Dion:

There carbon tax is suppossed to be revue neutral for Canadians because of taz breaks. But if my understanding is right we will have to pay for it all year and then get it back on our tax returns, but what about those on fixed incomes such
seniors and, social assistance what are they supposed to do freeze all winter because they can,t afford heat or not go anywhere because they can,t afford gas or bus fare.

THERE IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE INVOLVING THE PRICE OF GAS AT THE PUMPS THAT cANADIAN POLITICIANS DO NOT WANT TO DISCUSS.
THE FACT IS THAT SINCE JANUARY CANADA HAS EXPORTED MORE OIL TO THE USA THAN SAUDI ARBIA.ALSO,A NEW PIPELINE IS BEING TO PUMP AN ADDITIONAL 500,000 BARRELS A DAY TO THE SOUTH-WEST USA.MY POINT IS ,WHY SHOULD WE IN CANADA PAY MORE AT THE PUMPS THAN THE AMERICANS DO FOR THEIR GAS WHEN BOTH CAME FROM THR SAME SOUCE...CANADA.
IN REALITY, IT IS OUR OWN OIL AND THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT KEEPS RAISING THE PRICE.
WHY ARE CANADIANS BEING RIPPED-OFF AT THE PUMPS WHILE AMERICANS ARE BURNING OUR OIL AT ROCK BOTTOM PRICES ?
WHAT DO WE OWE THE AMERICANS TO GIVE THEM SUCH A DEAL.

Our Alcohol problem.
Could you find out if ANY of these individuals running for Prime Minister, had mentioned what their intentions are, in regards to our country's scourge of Alcohol?
Many of us have been trying to get the Government to make it mandatory, for all liquor manufacturers to have large Health Warning Labels on each container.
Similar to what they've inflicted upon Cigarette makers.
Not only have they not responded to many MANY letters, but we've heard nothing on this subject.
If possible, could you find out about this ?

In 2 elections the Liberals put in their "REDBOOK" that they would get rid of the GST. Could you ask them why they are now bragging about leaving the country in such good financial shape (which they did with the GST money)And now they voted against the consertative govn. even reducing it
How can we believe anything they are saying now.?
