The Toronto Star is reporting that Sam Bulte, who lost her seat in the last election in Parkdale-High Park amidst concern about copyright and fundraising from copyright lobby groups, has entered the race to replace John Godfrey in Don Valley West. Bulte supported Michael Ignatieff in the last Liberal leadership campaign. bulte, copyright fundraising Slashdot, Digg, Del.icio.us, Newsfeeder, Reddit, StumbleUpon, TwitterTagsShareMonday January 07, 2008 |

The Globe and Mail reports that Canadian Heritage Minister Bev Oda now says that her riding association submitted an inaccurate report to Elections Canada. Oda blamed a clerical error for the fact that the report did not indicate that contributions from broadcast executives were returned after a fundraiser was cancelled last fall. Left unsaid was that Oda should not have accepted contributions from broadcast executives in the first place. broadcast, fundraising, oda Slashdot, Digg, Del.icio.us, Newsfeeder, Reddit, StumbleUpon, TwitterTagsShareMonday May 07, 2007 |

Following on my posting earlier this week about last fall's cancelled broadcaster fundraiser for Bev Oda, the story has now generated interest in both the House of Commons and in the mainstream media. NDP Heritage critic Charlie Angus asked Oda during Question Period to explain why the donations appear to have been cashed, but Oda did not respond with House Leader Peter Van Loan stepping to avoid the question. This morning, there is coverage from both the Globe and Mail and the Canadian Press that places the spotlight on both Oda and the contributors, who alternately claim that the money was returned or simply unrelated to the fundraiser. broadcast, fundraiser, oda Slashdot, Digg, Del.icio.us, Newsfeeder, Reddit, StumbleUpon, TwitterTagsShareFriday May 04, 2007 |
