The CRTC has today confirmed that the national do-not-call registry will launch by September 30th. Given the number of exempt organizations - registered charities, political parties, polling companies, newspapers, businesses with a prior business relationship - Canadians will still need to individually opt-out of hundreds of additional organizations for the phone to stop ringing. iOptout.ca, which has processed millions of these individual opt-out requests since its launch in the spring, will come out of beta in time for the CRTC launch and will be ready to piggyback the CRTC's DNCL with the possibility of signficant penalties for those organizations who do not respect the opt-out requests. More on iOptOut's development in the coming weeks. crtc, dncl, do-not-call, ioptout, privacy Slashdot, Digg, Del.icio.us, Newsfeeder, Reddit, StumbleUpon, TwitterTagsShareWednesday July 30, 2008 |

iOptOut.ca has now been used by tens of thousands of Canadians since its launch a couple of weeks ago. Many people asked for secure data entry via SSL encryption and we've now added that for additional security. do-not-call, ioptout, security, ssl Slashdot, Digg, Del.icio.us, Newsfeeder, Reddit, StumbleUpon, TwitterTagsShareFriday April 18, 2008 |

The Canadian Marketing Association responds to this week's column on the iOptOut service with a letter to the editor professing its support for the national do-not-call list (though notably not for the public's right to opt-out without first receiving a phone call). Update: The CMA's John Gustavson responds to an open letter responding to his letter to the editor, acknowledging that PIPEDA gives Canadians the right to opt-out of further telemarketing regardless of the exemptions found in the do-not-call list. canadian marketing association, cma, do-not-call, ioptout, privacy Slashdot, Digg, Del.icio.us, Newsfeeder, Reddit, StumbleUpon, TwitterTagsShareFriday April 11, 2008 |
