Rogers has been hit with a complaint about its throttling practices but
has been very slow amend its public disclosure documents as required by
the CRTC. Complaints began appearing online
earlier this fall, with users noting that Rogers was degrading P2P
uploads and downloads. Torrent Freak details
what happened next - a complaint to the CRTC, an attempt to downplay
the issue, and finally an acknowledgement that the traffic management
requires a change in publicly disclosed policy.

The Competition Bureau has come down hard on Rogers over wireless advertisements that claiming fewer dropped calls than the new entrants. The Bureau is seeking a $10 million penalty and an immediate end to the campaign. The Bureau could find no evidence for the claims, noting that "the spectrum auction was intended to enhance competition in the
wireless sector. New entrants attempting to gain a
foothold in the market should not be discredited by misleading claims
made by their competitors." The decision is stunning (and expensive) rebuke to Rogers and indicative of the ongoing effort to combat the successful entry of new competition into the Canadian wireless marketplace. competition bureau, rogers, wireless Slashdot, Digg, Del.icio.us, Newsfeeder, Reddit, StumbleUpon, TwitterTagsShareFriday November 19, 2010 |
