Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to participate in a hearing on ACTA in Brussels sponsored by Members of the European Parliament Alexander Alvaro and Marietje Schaake. Other participants included Luc Devigne, the head of the European ACTA delegation, and representatives from eBay and EuroISPA. The full video of the hearing is posted below. My presentation begins just after the 5:00 minute mark.

New Media in Canada: My Appearance Before the Heritage Committee
Earlier today, I appeared before the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage as its first witness on a new study on Canada and New Media. I've posted my opening remarks below, but the 90 minute discussion is much more interesting as it covered a wide range of issues from copyright to the iPod levy to networks to the digitization in Canada. An audio stream is available now and the transcript should come early next week.

The Liberal Roundtable on the Digital Economy: My Comments
Liberal Industry critic Marc Garneau and Heritage critic Pablo Rodriguez yesterday hosted a roundtable on the digital economy on Parliament Hill. The roundtable featured two panels: one on a digital strategy (including representatives from Telus, MTS Allstream, ITAC, Google, and CAIP) and a second on copyright and broadcasting (I participated in this panel along with Barry Sookman and representatives from ACTRA, Rogers, and the Entertainment Software Association of Canada). Kady O'Malley live blogged the entire event and the Wire Report also provides coverage. My prepared opening remarks are posted below:
The Copyright Consultation: My Submission
For the past several weeks, I have been summarizing the thousands of copyright consultation submissions. With only three days left in the consultation, it is time to post my full submission (a short version was posted at the very start of the consultation). It can be downloaded in PDF form or viewed below. It only takes a single email to register your views. Whether you use a form letter or craft your own submission, every submission counts. Speak out on copyright today.
