In a masthead editorial this morning, the National Post calls on the government to establish a format shifting exception that would allow Canadians to legally copy music from the CDs to their iPods, noting that "it is for Parliament to resolve this technological quandary, preferably by explicit recognition of the reality that once you've bought a song, you should be able to take it with you to new platforms."

more trotskyists. great, just what this country needs 😉
Trotskyists ??
You know Hugh, just because Terence Corcoran came up with a cool sounding label doesn\’t make it an accurate one. (I presuming you pulled that phrase from his comment in the National Post. ([ link ])
Where both Hugh and Mr. Corcoran are mistaken is in thinking that a device device shifting exception is about forcing media companies to make it easy to transfer music between devices. That\’s simply false. The exception is about NOT making it illegal to transfer your music. It\’s IS possible. We want to keep it legal.
Mr. Corcoran claims that we all see it as an assault on our rights if my song \”can only be used on your iPod\”. WRONG. We think that it shouldn\’t be illegal for us to play them on our iPods when they CAN be. (Also Corcoran makes the link to straight up copyright infringement in the next sentence which strikes me as a sad attempt to muddy the issue).
Trotskyite is a nice insult, but it\’s based on nothing more than falsehood.
It doesn’t go far enough. Only the repeal of the copyright act will do the job. Everything must be free. We control everything onw. It is time for the law to catch up. Don’t ever pay again! Steal everything! Stupid corporate ASSHOLES don’t deserve to take our money. It all belongs to us. End the copyright madness now. Repeal the act today!
