Angus Issues Three-Step Approach for Effective Copyright Reform

NDP MP Charlie Angus has issued a "three-step approach" for effective copyright legislation.  Angus rightly emphasizes the need for further consultation:

1.      Live up to the government's commitment to bring the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) treaty to the House of Commons for a vote before introducing new legislation;

2.      Ensure adequate consultation prior to introducing news legislation between Parliamentarians with affected stakeholder groups including arts/artist groups, educators, software innovators, consumer groups and everyday Canadians;

3.      Ensure new legislation addresses the reality of technological innovation so that artistic creators can be fairly compensated in a rapidly changing paradigm of information transmission and storage.

    NDP SELL OUT
    NDP MP Charlie Angus has issued a “three-step approach” for effective copyright legislation. Angus rightly emphasizes the need for further consultation:

    1. Live up to the government’s commitment to bring the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) treaty to the House of Commons for a vote before introducing new legislation;

    :::outdated not even in step with todays technology and will in the end cost consumers MORE money and they get less. WHY cause it gives way too much control and rights to the creator and copyright was meant to be a GIFT that allowed the creator some benefit NOT FOREVER benefit and NOT total control at the cost of useability and price.

    2. Ensure adequate consultation prior to introducing news legislation between Parliamentarians with affected stakeholder groups including arts/artist groups, educators, software innovators, consumer groups and everyday Canadians;

    ::: And just how are the gov’t’s and people doing that.
    Facebook has proven to be the wrong setup. It isn’t a consumer page its turned into a CRIA and friends page where they have people all dya long shoot things in wrong direction and through misinformation. P2P groups have IP banlists that would stop such stuff and allow true consumer discussions. UMMM software innovators like who your new buddies microsoft? last i checked the federal gov’t would prolly save at least 600-800 million a year by migrating to linux and create some tech jobs by having to make our own version , lets add hospitals and military and provincial gov’ts and you see why this payoff to yahoo is needed to make sure MS stays here.
    ONCE AGAIN GOVT KISSES AMERICAN BUTT.
    And this term consumer should be changed to customer and
    i dont eat my dvd’s i dont eat my bandwidth I purchase it. Corporations look at us like cattle to be fed. This must stop.

    3. Ensure new legislation addresses the reality of technological innovation so that artistic creators can be fairly compensated in a rapidly changing paradigm of information transmission and storage.

    :::Technological innovation yes TPM aka DRM we need ot sneak this onto canadians because they are stupid and dumb like the americans we snuck it over on. See we didn’t even need to worry about DRM wording, but we need a change of name, and just why is it a conglomerate of companies is very very active in DRM and seems some SHOE company is the front for it????
