When the U.S. invited Canada to join the Trans Pacific Partnership negotiations last month, there was an
agreed upon delay to allow it to complete a domestic approval process. As part of that delay, Canada was to be excluded from the negotiations during the approval period and bound by any substantive agreements reached during those talks. While most assumed that would only cover the just-completed San Diego round of discussions, it turns out that Canada will be excluded from the next round of negotiations as well. The USTR sent the
formal letter to include Canada in the TPP to Congress on July 10, 2012. Last week, it also
announced that the next round of negotiations will take place in early September in Virginia. Given the 90-day waiting period from the date of the USTR letter, Canada will also be excluded from this round of negotiations and will have to wait until December to formally participate in the talks.

I think that proves it’s not a “partnership” at all. There’s one clear leader, USTR (and thus the USA), calling the shorts. Those poor countries that started this to begin with have no say anymore. They just bow to their Overlord. And so does Canada, if we’re not watchful.
Let’s just talk to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and invite a few others in the “Coalition of the Courageous”. Let’s see if we can get things moving without being under US supervision.

Harper is getting what he wants – playing with the big boys. I think he was bullied as a little boy, poor lad. So now he learns he has to toe a few more lines and kiss a few more asses to play. But it’s the Canadian people who will pay for his game, as usual. He knows exactly what’s going on and who’s pockets he’s living in. The bigger the business, the bigger the pocket and the more money and power the man will get. Until the people of Canada get him out of there it will be business as usual – he’ll continue selling our land, our water, our oil, our companies, our people, our sovereignty just for the handshake with the big boys. What a traitor!
It’s a shame
It was a sad day when the Con’s won a small majority. The leader Harper is nothing but a benign dictator. Why is he cancelling all the scientific programs that were so successful over the past years? It surely is not to save us money, it has to be that he doesn’t believe in any science findings. He probably believes that man walked with the dinosaur, he is so out of touch. He supposedly has a degree in economics, but he has never really worked in that field. He was a hanger on in the political world and through a lot of sucking around achieved his goal, PM of the best country in the world today.

To sum up the USTR: Canada’s to be bound by the terms of the TPP and isn’t allowed into the next round of negotitations. Hey, you only said this round, dirty bully!
To sum it up: we give away all our rights and gain nothing new in return. And we ain’t got a say in this, either.

It’s Their Ball
It has always been the policy of the Can gov’t to sign first and renegotiate for better terms, a soft-sell approach. Unfortunately, this leaves our economy at a disadvantage until the renegotiation that effect. And taking a hard-line approach won’t work; we have more to lose than the Americans. We simply have to choice but to play their game; it’s their ball.
So, the Can gov’t has no choice but to donate large quantities of cash to all presidential candidates and hire lobbyists to gain preferential treatment from the US. If that’s how the game is played, then we must play it to win.

Exactly how stupid and inept are you and your ministers? Signing into an agreement when you don’t know the terms and cannot participate in any negotiations?
