Selection Criteria
I see *I* qualify under one of the criteria:
The successful candidate must be a Canadian citizen under the terms of the Citizenship Act, or a permanent resident as defined in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
Of course, if Prof. Geist is interested in the appointment, I’ll refrain from entering the fray…
They could save a lot of money in salary by just getting rid of the position all together. Make all the really big decisions by flipping a coin instead. They’d only make the right decision half the time, but that would be a magnitude improvement over the incumbent.
+1 for Geist applying. Is there anyone better suited for this job in the country?

Micheal Geist would be ideal for the position, but the position effectively puts the successful applicant on a government leash, even though the CRTC is meant to operate “at arms length”.
I think he does more good in the wild, this blog being just a small example.
I actually believe the whole process is probably just a case of making applicants jump through hoops to put on a show.
I find it hard to imagine that the Harper Government has not already picked an unqualified, but fully bilingual candidate from its collection of media friends.

I think Harper is only concerned if the chair can speak English.
