The Senate began debate yesterday on Bill C-59, the movie camcording bill. The bill received enthusiastic support from both a Conservative and a Liberal Senator, but the bill was then sent to the Senate Standing Committee on Transport and Communications for review, suggesting that the Senate might conduct the hearings that the House of Commons declined to do.
Update: The hearings is now one hearing and it is set for this evening. Justice Minister Rob Nicholson will appear (he should be asked why he changed his views on the need for such a bill) along with representatives from Justice and Canadian Heritage.
